That gnarly paint edge around the bung

We all know that you should stay about an 1/8" away from the filler bung edge, but what can you do if you have a big gnarly paint edge?

Carefully remove your tape from painting (you may have to razor blade some of this tape off), stuff a rag inside the bung, or tape up the holes inside the filler, carefully wetsand with a block across the filler so you are only touching the paint and the filler top (I use 1200 to do this). This will flatten some of the edge on the paint. Now run a buffer over this area with polishing compound--------Be *careful* not to heat up this area or the paint will begin softening up on you.

Once the paint edge is very subtle, you can take some catalyzed clear and brush a bead around the paint edge. This will help keep the vapors from getting under the paint.
You will also notice your filler will almost have a "chrome" look to it.
Just a nice little detailed tidbit that I've been doing on the last few jobs.

This would only have to be done on some bikes (mainly HD)
