Q about taping off flames

I read in a book that when you outline the flames then mask them w/ thicker masking tape, you run the thick masking tape over the fine line tape and cut it off w/ a single edge razor. You cut the masking tape in the approximate middle of the fine line tape. Is this a good way to do it b/c my first and only time to try it, I cut too deep w/ the razor and cut into the existing paint that was on the hood. Thanks.

Yes, you can tape off the flames using wider tape and then trim the flames out.

First, tape off your flames with fine line (Blue 3M plastic tape as in the How-To section.) You then completely cover the panel(s) with 2" tape then carefully use a razor or X-acto knife to trim around the flames. You then remove all the tpae that covers the flame area in which you are going to spray. If you accidently cut into the base, clear will cover this. Just keep this to a minimum.

Same as you mentioned, but a little more detailed for other users to read.
Might be a good post for the tip section.

Thanks for the post.
