Probably a more advanced tip, but...
When doing "crossover" flames (these are the flames that criss-cross over one over the other), be sure and use a *new* razor blade (or a Exacto knife). This will help from cutting into the base paint, thus practically ruining your custom paint job.
Using a new razor will also help to keep your corners where the tape meets nice and crisp.
