Water droplet effect..advise please

Hi all, I am new to this website & loving the info!

I have had a go at water droplets on a plate, it came out ok but not killer. Has anyone got any tips for me?

The plate is ok'ish but I cant do say a crash hat or bike tank as the water just runs off & the shading is not good either

Is it possible to do this on a curved or vertical surface or does it have to be horizontal?
