I personally like the Iwata's, I have about 4 or 5 of the W-100 (kind of out dated now), and one of the SATA minis and I just can't get used to that little trigger on the SATA.

Oops, actually it's a devilbiss mini gun. I've had it for about 5 years now and only used it once or twice.

The other smaller guns I have are the W100s

For mini-guns, I've really been liking my ANI R1's, and Astro WB848's. For the ANI's, I have one HPS (RP, compliant) with a 1.2 tip that I use for clear coats that works amazingly. I also have two HVLP models, one in 1.0, and one in 0.5. The 0.5 I basically use as a big airbrush, but it works great for nooks and crannies, and for paints you really need to almost dust on, like the "chrome" effect paints. The 1.0 get used mostly for solid-color base coats on small objects. Retail on them are about $220 or so each, but Bloomertools.com had the HVLP models on close out for ridiculously cheap.

The Asturo's are really nice little mini's, too. I have one in 1.2, and one that came with a 1.0, 1.2, and 1.4. They have a really wide fan for a mini, and put down a lot of paint. The atomization is excellent, which isn't too much of a suprise with 8 air jets on each cap. They work really well with thinker clears, and especially with waterborne basecoats. The 1.4 can handle some big flakes for a mini gun, too.

I also have a CAT Tjr., which is "ehhhhh". It was a big step up from Harbor Freight mini-guns, but doesn't get used all that much now that I have the ANI's and Asturo's.

Anyway, just a couple alternatives to the usual SATA/Iwata's

For 100 bucks the Finex 1000 is a nice little rig. It will save you enough money then some even after you couple with a 9oz dekups system (#10 adapter). You can mix enough for a small job without worry of refilling or running out in the middle.

For big jobs Sata all the way.

I've had my two Sata Mini jets for over 10 yrs now and they are still fantastic guns. Very smooth and great atomisation. Dont know about the Iwata but wouldnt mind playing with one to see how it performs.
