Paint my Jeep

Hey guys and gals, I'm looking for some help coming up with a paint scheme for my heep. I'm a novice painter, so a simple design is a must.
This is my canvas so to speak

I'm leaning towards a 2 tone scheme using these 2 colors

Or possibly this purple with the grey on top

I'll be doing a bc/cc with added flake, grey on the hood, windshield frame and cage. With the orange along the body and doors. I'm looking for some photoshop help or a link where I can play with schemes on the jeep. I've messed around on my RC car but its not helping my ideas

I'm planning on painting in a friends barn with a better gun and better prep. My first paint project was my old jeep with a single stage metallic.

thanks!

Sounds like you have it narrowed down to the three colors. If I had to choose between those three, I would probably do the charcoal on top and the orange on the sides.
I'm surprised the RC doesn't give you a good idea of what a color scheme would look like on your jeep?!

I guess it has helped, but the body lines are different on the jeep. I'm looking for ideas on the layout...
Should I do the whole hood with a straight line back to the top of the doors and tub? Or the center hump of the hood and flare out to the windshield frame?

If you're looking for simple, I think I'd start at the quarters and run my two tone line so it would run right above or below the door handle.
Then either keep going straight once it gets into the fenders or curve it so it goes over the cowl.

Don't forget, you'll need a small pinstripe to separate the two colors. Possibly a silver or black. Or whatever color you choose.

I was thinking the same thing, I'll try taping off a scheme this weekend.
Should the pinstripe be the final step before clearing? Also, how soon can fresh paint be masked off? I'm guessing I'll paint one color, mask the next day and paint.

Any ideas on what the sequence of painting the 2 tones should be? I was thinking if shooting the gray first, midcoat with added flake then the bottom orange base coat, midcoat then clearing the whole car...
is it possible to wait a day to do the final clear coats over the midcoat?
I just ordered some flake from tcp but its really tiny .004. What's the biggest flake that'll shoot out of a 1.5 tip?
thanks!

If you get an early start, you should be able to do all colors in the same day.
This is if you are using all basecoat type paints.

Sometimes it's best to do the pinstripe first. Spray it, then mask it off. Then you can do the bottom color. Mask it off, then do the top color.

I've shot some pretty big flakes through my gun which is a 1.4. But keep in mind, the bigger flakes you get, you may need to sand and reclear the paint job.

Thanks Taz! Any idea what the general rule for flake size before sanding is needed? Like I said the .004 is tiny flake. More like extra metallic.
Any other paint scheme ideas?

You could go with the MF01 flake (House of Kolor), and get by without sanding and reclearing. But you'll still have to lay the clear on thick.

I like the paint scheme you had in mind.

Layed a little paint down today on the beer fridge.

little bit of orange peel, not too bad. Gonna put some gray down as soon as I can mask off

I won't get around to the 2nd color til tues. After the 2nd color is down can I unmask the other color and do a couple coats of clear or do I have to scuff the older clear? Red Scotchbrite? (The first color has a couple coats of clear mixed with flake)

What is the white? Is that masking? or is it the original paint from the fridge?
You will need to "sand" the clear down. Not just scuff it. I would suggest 600 DA, then wetsand with 1000.

Is that basecoat, or is that a urethane?

I assume you are doing the fridge to test the colors? You didn't mention anything.

The white is the fridges original color.
I'm using TCPs UMB series of paint, so far so good. Was so excited to paint I forgot to set up the gun correctly so it was spraying at very low psi. Had to turn my compressor up, after that there were no problems.
So 600da and 1000 wet then I can build some layers of clear? Then sand again and buff?
thanks for the help!
