How to get worm goo out of my paint

I've been full of bad luck lately....

Some type of mucusy slug dropped onto the hood of my 2009 Pontiac G8 from a tree I assume. I pulled the slug off and didn't think anything about it.

2 days later, my husband noticed the spot and tried to clean it with quick detailer and even clay bar to no avail. I'm assuming the mucus must have some chemical in it that penetrated the clear coat.

Does it sound like repainting is my only option or would wet sanding possibly work?

If it ate into the paint, then most likely it will needed to be spotted in and the hood recleared.
If it's on top of the clear and you just can't get it off, possibly 2000 wetsand and then polish (machine) polish would take it off.

I would take to to a detail or bodyshop and see if they can take a look at it.
Maybe all you need is a quick wetsand and buff.

Good luck to you

Slugs do not climb trees, more likely what you had was some sort of caterpillar. I do not know of any caterpillar, insect, or even form of sea-life, that exudes any substance that would eat into clear coat. Wrap some 2000 grit around a soft block and scrub the stain off of the part then buff it back.
