has anyone ever worked w/ metal (gold) leaf?

Can one apply it directly to the base coat, or does one need to apply it to a clear coat?

Just to be safe i'd apply it to
A clear coat. but you could do a test panel.
i've worked with gold&silver leaf alot.
Good luck.

I would never risk laying it directly on the basecoat. If you clear it you can work with a mistake. If you don't you will live with a mistake. Clear it, then use the sizing to apply to the scuffed clear coat.

thanks guys, another question about it is;

how do i get a crisp edge? do i pull the stencil tape, then apply the leaf, or do i put on the leaf then pull the stencil tape??

i want an edge that doesn't need a pinstripe to clean it up.
