Getting rid of flames - How to ?

I recently purchased a '67 Chevelle with some flames across the front of the car. I want to get rid of these flames without having to re-paint the entire car. Is there a way to sand them out, buff and clear coat without completely ruining the paint job ?

If so, what would you suggest to use ? Grit of paper, sanding methods, etc. Your help is appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

Jim,

You'll need to repaint the panels that have the flames. You'll need to sand the panels, match and blend the white, then reclear the complete panels.
As far as grit, you can use 320 grit to sand down the flames flat. And wetsand the areas where you plan on blending. Probably 1000 grit would work
.
Be sure and get the flames flat....if you don't you'll see the outline of the flames even when you put the new white on.
