Color change question

Will be looking for my next 4wd project (there has been many). I’ve seen many newer vehicles with a great solid grey in varying shades from light to dark. So my question is, if I purchased a late 90’s project in a primary silver paint code, could a similar shade solid grey be overlaid without the total color change cost of the door openings and such?

Sure, I don't see why not. Keep in mind though, when you open the doors, they will be the original color. Be sure whoever you get to paint it will at least mask off the jams nice a neat so you just don't get overspray going into them
Also, they should know this but they should also mask off the jams deep enough that when the doors, hood and deck are closed you don't see the original color through the gaps
