ok guys im new to the forum and would like some advice,
i have a 1976 ford f-250 that i am restoring, im going to paint it candy apple green and black. i am not the painter my dad paints it how i want it and hes teaching me now this is what i wanna do. on the hood im plannning on painting some flames to kinda give it a little more color. my dad wants to use the duplicolor candy coat system to try out. now i have it in my head how its gonna turn out but jus wanna know if my ideas gonna work. i am gonna spray my silver base coat then my plan is to mask out my flames and use my airbrush to do dark tips and fade back into the silver as it goes to the front of the hood. that way there kinda there but kinda disapear into the hood, then pull my tape and spray the candy coat over it all. will this work? im hoping to do this but this will be the first flame job/ airbrush job on a vehicle ha. iv been airbrushing for quite a few years and figured id give it a try on my own vehicle.jus askin you guys for some advice and what you think of the idea

Sure, that will work fine. You can either do the flames under the candy, or do the candy/clear/resand, then do the flames. Then reclear again. This will give you a slicker paint job since you clearcoated it twice.

Be sure and post pics once you are done!

i will for sure post pictures im thinking of ordering the paint and jus gettin the hood done to see how it turns out cause im waiting on new panels almost everywhere else. money is a bit of a problem right now so its taking a little longer than planned. now the choice is jus which way im going to paint it if i do the flames with the 2 clear coats as you said do i need to do the entire truck that way also so it all matches?

You ought to just do a nice basecoat/clearcoat like House of Kolor Limetime Green and then do some black ghost flames or find a nice rich looking lime green color like the Hyundai Lime Rock Green. Then airbrush some ghost flames using a black.
This would help cut down on cost, and it would be a heck of a lot easier on you.
