I have a two car garage and in one corner of it is a forced air oil burning furnace that heats an apartment attached to garage. I'm looking to do paint a motorcycle am I in an danger of an explosion?

Yes. Open flame+flammable vapors=boom. Having said that I think that if you have good ventilation and don't fog the air with overspray you should be OK. Most Oil Furnaces have the flame enclosed enough to prevent the fumes from exploding. I'd make it so that the burner stayed off while you are painting but keep in mind that if the unit has a pilot light you still have an open flame.

if you can see a haze in the air you could be in trouble.put a fan in the window aiming out and open a door or window at the other end.i used to shut off the furnace while spraying let the shop vent a bit and then turn the furnace on to bring up the heat again and repeat between coats.i've done this at twenty below zero with no ill efects to paint work.good luck
