    Angry Mid Life Crisis

Hello to all... I have an 02 FLHRI (Concord Purple) love the color however went on a road trip in June and a very large dog jumped on my bike and scratched the s**t out of it. After researching custom paint jobs I decided to take it on myself. So yesterday i parked it for the season to start my venture. I have removed the Bags, Fenders, and Tank. Today I sanded down the fron fender to the original HD primer. Should I take it to the bare metal or can I prime over the factory primer??? I have never been more possesed with a project like this in my life. I joined this forum after seeing some of the info posted here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

it'd be eaiser to take it to the metal b/c it's a smoother surface to work from. whether you can see it or not any areas that aren't smooth were you left primer will show up in your final product.

I took the parts to a professional today... Turns out that I didn't need to sand all the way down to the factory primer since the paint was in great condition.. They recommended to just sand the parts with 400grit clean with oil, grease, wax remover then proceed to prime. All the parts will be preped and ready for primer on Saturday.

i thought you already sanded the front fender to the primer? if you did, then i thought it be easier just to coat the metal w/ some new primer.

the factory finish would be fine to shoot over, sounds like you got some good advice from your professional.
